Architects and Engineers of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have designed a building with walls of water controlled digitally. This is the
Digital Water Pavilion, a structure which is housed at Expo Zaragoza 2008, the English international exhibition on water and sustainable development.
The hotel houses an exhibition area of \u200b\u200b330 square meters and two boxes of 12 and 30 square meters respectively, which receive an information center and a café with terrace.
To understand the concept of digital water, imagine an inkjet printer on a large scale, able to control the drops as a cascading waterfall. The walls of water that make up the structure consist of a row of valves selenoidi placed at a distance from each other along a canal in the area suspended. A digital control system enables the closing and opening the valves at high frequency. The effect is that of a waterfall that stops at specific points, creating a sort of screen where the pixels that form the images are not bright but made of air and water. The entire surface becomes a digital display continuamante flowing down like a waterfall. Not only are the walls. Even the cover of the pavilion, has a surface layer of water. Imagined as a mobile structure, the roof of the Digital Water Pavilion is supported by hydraulic cylinders which, depending on your needs, help you lift or lower. Under conditions of strong winds, such as the pistons are lowered for better protection. In closing the roof is lowered it all the ending so the complete disappearance the display structure.
